CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Mecklenburg School officials are closing schools on Monday, March 16, 2026. Officials say they have been monitoring weather conditions and working with local and state officials. Meteorologists predict Monday will bring strong winds, hail and the potential for tornadoes.
In a statement CMS officials say the day will be waived by the Superintendent, so students will not have a designated make-up instructional day on the 2025-26 academic calendar.
On top of instructional time canceled, all before-school and after-school programs (BSEP and ASEP) are canceled, all Community Use of Schools activities are canceled and all athletic events and extracurricular activities will be rescheduled. CMS officials will share dates for rescheduling as soon as possible.
CMS leaders say they will continue to monitor National Weather Service updates and keep families informed of any district or school schedule changes through the CMS website, on social media, and via ParentSquare (email, text, and phone call), if necessary.
There was also a 2024 Comprehensive Review Meeting scheduled for Monday. All community input sessions will be rescheduled.
