The 31-year-old left-hander limited the Royals to three singles while lowering his earned run average to 2.24 after coming over to Kansas City this week from Oakland.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Gregory Polanco homered and drove in three runs as the Pittsburgh Pirates exacted some measure revenge against Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals in a 7-5 win. Scherzer had no-hit the Pirates last month, but gave up three homers last night.

The rookie left-hander pitched in place of All-Star Zack Greinke (GREHN’-kee)— who left the team Thursday morning for the birth of his first child.
CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Junior Seau’s (SAY’-owz) daughter will not be commenting on her father entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame during the Aug. 8 inductions in Canton. Citing previous policies on posthumous inductions, the Hall has barred Sydney Seau from making a speech. Seau, who committed suicide in 2012, is one of seven men being inducted this year.
NEW YORK (AP) — ESPN says radio host Colin Cowherd won’t be on the air again before leaving the network in the wake of disparaging remarks he made about major league baseball players from the Dominican Republic. Major League Baseball and its players’ union both called Cowherd’s comments “offensive.”
