MONROE, N.C. — A disturbing overnight burglary is under investigation in Monroe after a woman tells police she woke up to a stranger trying to take her clothes off.
Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, officers responded to a burglary call at an apartment on Cotton Street. During the investigation, detectives determined an unknown man climbed through a window and entered the victimβs bedroom while she was asleep.
The victim woke up when the suspect began trying to remove her clothing, according to a news release. The woman screamed and police say the suspect immediately ran out the front door.
The only description provided by Monroe Police is that the suspect is a black male wearing dark clothing.
Police are asking anyone in that general area to check home security or doorbell cameras for suspicious activity around 11 p.m. Wednesday. If you see anything suspicious or have information, contact the Monroe Police Department at 704-282-4700.
