Coast Guard cutter rescues lost snowmobiler
A Michigan-based Coast Guard cutter crew rescued a lost snowmobiler stranded on a drifting and rapidly shrinking piece of ice in frigid Lake Huron.
Β Windy whiteout conditions made an aerial rescue attempt unfeasible. So, the crew dispatched and found the snowmobiler on a floating chunk of ice.
He was brought aboard and, according to the Coast Guard, was exhibiting hypothermia symptoms but received aid and was eventually stabilized.
The crew also hoisted the snowmobile aboard just as the floating patch was reduced to nearly nothing.
