Patchy frost possible tonight

Tracking our next warm-up

Well below average temperatures continue into the overnight hours, where patchy frost is likely in the Piedmont/Foothills, with a hard freeze in the High Country. Frost has the potential to harm and even kill sensitive plants left outside. It is best to bring these plants in tonight, or cover them with a cloth tarp to prevent harm. By tomorrow afternoon we will see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 60s in the Piedmont and low 60s in the High Country. Thursday night frost concerns become much more isolated as overnight lows warm a few degrees.

By Friday, the warming trend gets going once again, with highs back in the mid to upper 70s. By the weekend, we once again crack the 80s. We don’t stop there as highs could approach 90 by the middle of next week! This is all thanks to a heat dome getting stuck over the Eastern United States for the foreseeable future.

The major downside to this dome of heat and higher pressure is the lack of rain it will bring. We are already in a drought with this being the driest period from September to this point in April ON RECORD in Charlotte. This will only worsen over the next 7 days as I don’t see a drop of rain in sight. This will also increase the fire danger, so a friendly reminder that a statewide burn ban remains in effect!
