South Carolina’s top state income tax rate drops from 6% to 5.21%

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s new top state income tax rate is now 5.21 percent. That was just announced Wednesday at the state house by Governor Henry McMaster. It had been 6.0 percent.

Lawmakers in Columbia say the new state income tax will provide $308 million in immediate relief to South Carolina residents, and give the next governor a pathway to having no state income tax at all.

South Carolina legislators are in the process of forming a group to look at property tax next.
