Students, Parents Concerned About ‘Growing’ Gang At Local School

ROCK HILL, SC – Students and parents are living in fear of what they say is a growing, violent gang inside a local high school.

School officials at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill are denying their claims, even though police identified two gangs as being involved in a massive brawl at the school Friday.

Rock Hill Police arrested six students after the fight.

According to a police report, members of the gang, known as “Weezy Boys” on the streets, were involved in the South Pointe Brawl. Students shared cell phone video of the fight with WCCB Charlotte.

A mother who says her sons were attacked in the fight, tells WCCB the violence is spilling over into her neighborhood.

“They had knives the first time, they had guns the second time, and the third time they actually shot at my house.”

The Rock Hill mother didn’t want to reveal her identity to protect her family. She says they live in fear every day of the local gang.

A school spokesperson told WCCB Tuesday that gangs were not involved in Friday’s fight at the school.

“It’s a cover up and bad on their part,” said Tammy Rawlins, a South Pointe parent.

A student gave WCCB Charlotte exclusive video he says was shot inside a South Pointe restroom, where he says gang members corner students.

Parents are concerned that there’s not enough being done to stop the gang they say is recruiting members and growing.

“Started off as about six kids, now it’s to the point where it’s over 30 kids.”

“You never know what’s going on inside of the school. I mean, that’s where they are supposed to be safe, not getting into anything like that,” said Rawlins.

WCCB reached out to Rock Hill Police several times to find out what they’re doing to combat gang activity in and near the school, but we haven’t heard back.
