A local high school student was arrested after police said he threatened to get a gun from his vehicle during school hours, according to the Huntersville Police Department.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Hopewell High School.

Police said the student, 18-year-old Hao Gia Ho, “made a threat indicating he was going to his vehicle to retrieve a gun.”

To ensure the safety of the school, Hopewell administrators searched the student’s truck and found a handgun and multiple shell casings, according to police. Hopewell’s School Resource Officer was immediately notified.

“This incident underscores the important role that school resource officers and school administrators play in working together to help maintain a safe learning environment,” the Huntersville Police Department said. “Through swift communication and coordinated action, school officials and the campus SRO were able to quickly address a potential threat, helping ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.”

Police seized the weapon, and the student was taken into custody.
