Authorities say airborne umbrella strikes, kills woman who was dining on restaurant patio

CLARENDON CO., S.C. – Authorities say a South Carolina woman was struck and killed by an airborne patio umbrella while dining at a lakeside restaurant. It happened Saturday night at the Driftwood Grill on Lake Marion in Clarendon County.

EMS arrived to find 56-year-old Dana Weigner suffering from injuries to her head and neck, after witnesses say the umbrella went flying during a sudden burst of wind.

The restaurant posted on Facebook asking for prayers, compassion, and privacy.
