Driver Charged With DWI After Crash That Sent 8 People To The Hospital

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have charged one of the drivers involved in a southwest Charlotte crash Monday night that sent eight people to the hospital, including three children with serious injuries.

 

The accident happened around 6:24pm on South Tryon Street between Tyvola Road and Tyvola Centre Drive when a Honda Civic and Chevrolet Tahoe collided. Police say the Tahoe was carrying six children when it flipped over during the collision.

The children, ages 11, 10, 7, 5, 2, and 11-months, were all taken to CMC with injuries. Police say the 10 and 7-year-old are in serious condition, and the 11-year-old has life threatening injuries. All other injuries are minor.

According to investigators, Jennifer Webster, 34, was driving a 2015 Civic when she turned in front of the 2005 Tahoe driven by 28-year-old Yolanda King. Webster and King were both transported to CMC. King’s injuries are listed as moderate, while Webster’s are minor.

Detectives have charged Webster with Driving While Impaired and three counts of Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle.
