Daughter of ex-Charlotte City Councilwoman pleads guilty to fraud

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The daughter of a former Charlotte City councilwoman has agreed to a plea deal in the COVID-19 funds fraud case involving the family.

According to the office of the US Attorney for the Western District, Antionette Rouse admitted she fraudulently received more than $51,000 in relief funds.

Rouse conspired with her mother, ex-Charlotte City Councilwoman Tiawana Brown, and sister, Tijema Brown, to commit the fraud. Rouse admitted that the trio submitted loan applications for fake businesses that didn’t exist.

She is the third and final defendant to plead guilty in the case. All three suspects await sentencing.
