TSA rolls out self-service eGates for pre-check passengers at Charlotte Douglas
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Travelers flying out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport may notice a new feature this summer at TSA Checkpoints. The Transportation Security Administration has rolled out eight self-service electronic gates for pre-check passengers.
The hope is that it will allow for a more efficient verification process for travel documents and identification. The eGates use biometric data to match pre-check members’ faces with their ID.
TSA Federal Security Director Greg Hawko says, “We hope it’s here forever because our team loves it. The passengers love it. It gives us an opportunity to make the process more streamlined faster, and my hope is that it will continue to grow.”
The service is currently available in the airport at Security Checkpoint 2. The Charlotte Airport processes around 35,000 originating passengers daily.
