Flooding rain and strong storms overnight before sunshine returns Friday afternoon

Dry weekend in store

We are already seeing severe weather across the region and this will continue through the evening. While a few storms could produce gusty winds and heavy downpours, the main round of active weather is expected to arrive overnight into early Friday morning, with the greatest impact between midnight and 7 a.m.

Expect widespread rain, localized flooding and damaging winds. A few stronger storms could also produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. The tornado threat remains low, but an isolated brief tornado can’t be ruled out, especially south of the Metro where a few storms may become more organized.

The good news is that this wet weather won’t stick around for long. If you have Juneteenth celebrations or outdoor plans on Friday, conditions are trending much better with a good amount of sunshine as the storm pulls away. While it will remain breezy, temperatures will rebound nicely into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees by the afternoon.

Once we get past Friday morning, the weather pattern becomes almost picture-perfect for the weekend. Saturday looks fantastic with a mix of sunshine and clouds, lower humidity, and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Father’s Day on Sunday looks just as nice, with plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Highs will climb into the lower 90s, but humidity levels will remain manageable, making it a great day for cookouts, golf, or any outdoor plans with family.
