MORGANTON, N.C. — The pilot of a single engine plane suffered minor injuries following a crash in Morganton. A training pilot was also in the plane during the incident but was not injured.

Just before 11am Wednesday, June 24th Highway Patrol troopers say they were dispatched to a plane crash at Foothills Regional Airport.

Upon arrival, troopers encountered a single engine aircraft sitting on the right side of the runway.

Authorities say it appears as if the plane was attempting to take off and lost directional control and ended up to the right of the runway, in a ditch.

Officials do not believe the plane was airborne at the time of the crash, according to a statement from Highway Patrol.

The airplane had two passengers, a pilot and a pilot in training.

The pilot was transported to the UNC Health Blue Ridge Hospital in Morganton with minor injuries. The pilot was awake and alert, according to first responders.

The pilot in training was not injured.

The FAA has been contacted and will do a complete investigation.
