Police Arrest Suspect Accused Of Shooting A Statesville Officer In The Back

Statesville Police say they have arrested the suspect accused of shooting an officer in the back while he was on foot patrol Friday night.

Keith Eugene Lackey, 21, is charged with two counts each of Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. He is also charged with one count of Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits.

Police say Lackey was arrested on Island Ford Road around 11:15am Tuesday. His bond has been set at $3 million.

STATESVILLE, N.C. —  A  police officer was shot in the back while patrolling a neighborhood in Statesville Friday night.

On Friday, June 15th shortly before 11 p.m., Officer Tyler Horn was shot once in the back while he and another officer were patrolling the area near Raleigh Avenue and Fifth Street on foot.

Horn was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released early Saturday morning.  Police say the bullet proof vest Horn was wearing took the brunt of the shot
