11 Suspects Now Charged In Connection To Statesville Homicide

STATESVILLE, NC — Authorities from multiple agencies arrested eight more suspects Monday morning in connection to the January 2018 murder of Freeman Jacobi Wells.

Statesville Police Chief Joe Barone says most of the arrests were made in Statesville, but also included arrests in other jurisdictions.

Barone says the arrests resulted from months of investigation by local, state, and federal agencies into several shootings throughout the area, including the murder of 30-year-old Freeman Wells.

Wells was shot on January 6, 2018 at a home on Hickory Avenue. He died the following day at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

The following suspects were charged during Monday’s operation:

  • Anagee Chambers, 18, of Statesville – First Degree Murder
  • Anthony Jamall Caldwell, 23, of Statesville – First Degree Murder
  • Rick Rashond Chambers, 25, Statesville – First Degree Murder
  • Jatavius Raheem Bowman, 22, Statesville – First Degree Murder
  • Kevin Dontae Turner, 25, Statesville – First Degree Murder
  • Marquis O’Bryan Peet, 28, Statesville – First Degree Murder
  • Katisha Maria Bowman, 27, Statesville – Accessory After the Fact to the Felony of Murder
  • Frederick Anthony Cherry, 22, Statesville – First Degree Murder (Currently being held in Alexander County custody on unrelated charges)

Officials have previously charged Enrico Dewoine Heggins, of Winston-Salem, Antwon Deon Taylor, of Statesville, and Kasey Allen Randol, also of Statesville, with the First Degree Murder of Wells.

Chief Barone says he believes Monday’s arrests will lead to additional arrests in the area. The investigations are ongoing.
