Hornets Agree To Trade Dwight Howard To Nets For Timofey Mozgov

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to trade Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets for center Timofey Mozgov, two future second-round draft picks and cash, according to reports.

The Hornets get the Nets’ second-round pick in this year’s draft (45th) and a 2021 second-round pick.

Howard played one season in Charlotte averaging 16.6 points and 12.2 rebounds per game.  The Nets will inherit the  one year and $23.5 million salary remaining on Howard’s contract.

Mozgov is owed $32.7 million over the next two years.

Charlotte General Manager Mitch Kupchak signed Mozgov to a four-year $64 million contract in 2016 when Kupchak was the General Manager of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The deal saves the Hornets roughly $7.5 million this season as the team looks to create a new identity under Kupchak’s leadership.

The NBA Draft is Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at 7 p.m. and Charlotte will have the 11th and 55th picks in addition to the Nets’ pick.  The Hornets also had the 11th pick in last year’s draft, which they used to select Malik Monk from Kentucky.
