Suspect Wanted For Family Dollar Armed Robbery In Lancaster County

ELGIN, SC — Deputies in Lancaster County are looking for the suspect they say robbed a Family Dollar at gun point Wednesday night.

The robbery happened just before 10pm at the store on Kershaw Camden Highway. Deputies say two employees and several customers were inside when the suspect came in armed with a silver revolver and demanded money.

The suspect took off with the money, and deputies say no one was injured.

“This was a bold armed robbery which occurred in front of at least nine witnesses including children, and we need to get this man identified and arrested as soon as possible,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “The man captured on video in this robbery appears similar to the man who robbed the Market Express Exxon in Indian Land on June 5th. Investigators in nearby jurisdictions are working robberies of businesses by a man with similar physical characteristics and clothing. Our investigators are working with other agencies to see if these cases are related.”

The suspect is described as a black male, medium height, and stocky build. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie over another shirt, a light blue ball cap with a possible Carolina Panthers logo, khaki pants, light colored shoes with dark trim around the toe, and dark gloves.

Witnesses say he may have been driving a light colored Chevroley Malibu or Cruz.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388 or Midlands Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372).
