MOORESVILLE, NC — A former teacher at Lake Norman High School was arrested Friday on several charges including statutory rape and taking indecent liberties with a child.
Jonathan Busch, 54, is charged with two felony counts each of Statutory Rape of a Child and Indecent Liberties with a Child. According to an arrest warrant, the crimes involve a victim who was under the age of 16 at the time they occurred.
Iredell-Statesville Schools says Busch, who has been employed by the district since July 2003 as a high school social studies teacher, resigned this week. Superintendent Brady Johnson said in a statement Friday that while the charges are extremely serious, the alleged incidents did not occur on campus and did not involve any current or former students at the school.
Lake Norman High School also sent a letter to parents following the announcement of Busch’s charges.
The Gastonia Police Department is investigating the case.
