Heat index values near 105° Wednesday

Tracking rain this upcoming weekend

Tonight, we’ll keep a small chance for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms around through the evening. Not everyone will see rain, and a lot of neighborhoods will stay dry, but a few spots could catch a quick downpour and a little temporary relief from the heat. Once we lose the daytime heating, any storms that develop will fade pretty quickly. After that, we’re left with a warm and sticky night, with overnight lows only dropping into the mid 70s.

Wednesday looks very similar, with lots of sunshine, highs in the mid 90s, and another day of dangerous heat. It’ll feel closer to 103 to 104 degrees during the hottest part of the afternoon. There may be a stray pop-up storm late in the day, but the chance is low and most of the area will stay dry.

Then as we head into Thursday and Friday, the heat continues to build. Afternoon highs will be back around 95 degrees both days, and with the humidity sticking around, it’s going to feel downright oppressive at times. Overnight lows will stay in the middle 70s, so there really won’t be much relief even after sunset.

The good news is there’s at least some change on the horizon by the weekend. A slow-moving front is expected to move closer to the Carolinas, and that will bring a better chance for showers and thunderstorms starting Saturday and lasting into Sunday. It won’t be a washout the entire weekend, but things could be a little more widespread.
