Hundreds gather for weekend protest of Morrison Family YMCA sale

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hundreds of people gathered over the weekend to protest the closure of the Morrison Family YMCA. Organizers say the Sunday afternoon protest in front of the property drew more than 500 people. That included, they say, YMCA staff members who even spoke on the microphone to address the crowd.

The Y sold the property to Moments of Hope Church for more than $42 million. David Chadwick is the pastor there. He was formerly at Forest Hill. The Y says the church plans to redevelop the land into a new church campus and possible school.

The next protest will be July 26th at noon.
