Registered Sex Offender Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Uber Driver In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a registered sex offender for sexually assaulting an Uber driver in Charlotte.  Investigators say the Uber driver picked up 22-year-old Jonathan Neal on Albemarle Road early Saturday morning.

While driving Neal to his destination, police say he began to sexually assault the victim.  Neal then reportedly told the 31-year-old driver to pull over on North Graham Street where he raped her, according to a news release.

The driver contacted police a short time later.

Neal is a registered sex offender.  He has been charged with forcible rape, second degree forcible sexual offense and sexual assault in this case.

Below is a statement from Uber:

“Our thoughts are with our driver-partner during this difficult time. What was reported is disturbing beyond measure. We’re grateful the suspect is in custody and thank the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for their work on this case.”
