American Airlines Employee Arrested After Trying To Pass Through Airport Security With Stolen Gun

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An American Airlines employee was arrested after trying to pass through a security checkpoint at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport with a stolen gun.

Elvira Thomas, 62, was arrested after TSA agents located the gun using the X-ray scanner.  Police say a check of the gun’s status revealed the gun was stolen from another jurisdiction in North Carolina.   She has been charged with Possession Of A Stolen Firearm and Possession Of A Firearm On City Property.

Reports indicate Thomas is a ticket agent with American Airlines.

In a statement, American Airlines said, “At American Airlines, we have an unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our customers and team members. We take this matter very seriously and are cooperating with law enforcement during their investigation.”

American also says all employees undergo background checks and that Thomas has been placed on administrative suspension while the case is investigated.
