Scattered storms into Wednesday

Tonight the overall severe weather threat remains low, a few stronger storms could produce isolated damaging wind gusts. The bigger concern will be slow-moving downpours that could create areas of localized flooding. A few showers may stick around well after sunset before gradually winding down overnight. Temperatures will settle into the lower 70s overnight.

Don’t expect much of a break Wednesday. Early morning fog will give way to another warm, sticky afternoon with highs in the mid-80s. As the atmosphere heats up, scattered showers and thunderstorms will redevelop later in the day. Some storms will once again be capable of producing torrential rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds before gradually fading overnight. Overnight temperatures will dip to around 70 degrees.

By Thursday, we’ll start moving back toward a more typical summertime pattern. You’ll notice a little more sunshine, allowing temperatures to climb into the mid-80s. That sunshine, combined with high humidity, will be enough to spark the usual pop-up showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening. Once the sun goes down, most of the activity will fade, leaving another warm and muggy night.

We’ll finish the week with a familiar August forecast. Expect a mix of sunshine and clouds, highs pushing the upper 80s, and another round of scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms developing as the heat of the day builds. Not everyone will get wet, but if a storm moves overhead, be ready for brief heavy rain and lightning.
