CMPD identifies suspect and victim in deadly parking spot dispute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police have identified the man killed in a dispute over a parking spot in east Charlotte. Investigators say 27-year-old Gilberto Gomez-Ruiz was shot last Wednesday morning on Dunlavin Way off Eastway Drive.

The shooting happened just before two AM. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s website, the suspect, 29-year-old David Simpson, was released from the jail less than two hours earlier.

We’re told a second shooting victim is expected to survive.
