Charlotte City Council Members Discuss RNC Vote
The Republican National Convention is almost officially coming to Charlotte in 2020 and not without a lot of controversy.
City council members voted Monday night to let City Manager Marcus Jones negotiate contracts with the RNC and the local planning committee.
But before voting, they heard nearly 3 hours of public comment.
Supporters say the convention will bring Charlotte an economic boom, but others argue the financial impact isn’t worth dealing with President Trump, racism and protesters.
Ultimately, four Democrats ans two Republicans voted to bring the convention here.
The other five Democrats on the city council voted against it.
Now, the decision rests in the hands of RNC members meeting this week in Austin, Texas who should make their announcement by the end of the week.
