CMPD officer recovering after being hurt while trying to stop suspected copper thieves

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer is recovering from minor injuries after being hurt while trying to stop suspected copper thieves.

It happened just after 10:30 Tuesday morning on Robinson Circle in north Charlotte. That’s near Atando Avenue and North Tryon Street.

Officers say they arrived to find four suspects attempting to steal copper wire. One suspect tried to flee the scene, injuring an officer in the process. That officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has now been released.
