NC Attorney General says he will reject Duke Energy settlement

RALEIGH, N.C. –  North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson says he will not sign a Duke Energy progress settlement that raises power bills.

The proposal would increase residential electric rates by nearly seven percent over two years. The utility lowered the proposal from an original 18 percent discovery request. However, Jackson argues the revised cost is still too high for working families.

The rate hikes would affect eastern North Carolina and the Asheville area. If approved, new rates would begin taking effect on January 1, 2027.
