Dangerous heat builds across the Carolinas

Heat Advisory in effect for most counties south of I-85. This includes Mecklenburg. Expect advisories again tomorrow. Heat indices between 103 – 108 degrees.

Flood Watch is in effect expires at 8 am this morning for Ashe and Watauga counties.

Forecast:
Thursday: Very hot. Highs in the mid 90s. Feeling closer to 103-107. Scattered showers and storms.

Friday: HOT! Highs in the upper 90s. Heat indices near 103-108. Scattered showers and storms. Isolated storms could become serve.

Saturday: Hot and muggy. Highs in the mid 90s. Scattered showers and storms – damaging winds, heavy downpours and frequent lightning possible.

Sunday: Similar to Saturday. Highs in the mid 90s. Isolated showers and storms.

Tropics:
Short-lived Cristobal is now a depression. This will be a “fish storm” meaning it won’t impact land. There are two more waves in the “Main development region” worth watching. Wind shear is high across parts of the Atlantic, Caribbean and the Gulf so whatever can form will have a tough road. Nothing will impact us in the near term, but we will watch it closely.
