Investigators Seek Answers In Lancaster County Shooting

LANCASTER, SC — Investigators are still trying to figure out why a 21-year-old man was shot and seriously injured Sunday night.

The shooting happened just before 7pm on 16th Street near Brooklyn Avenue. Deputies say they were performing a nearby property check when they heard gunshots in the area.

The victim was reportedly found lying in a resident’s yard on 16th Street south of Brooklyn Avenue, while several fired shell casings were located on 16th Street north of Brooklyn Avenue.

The man was taken to Springs Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries, and later transferred to another facility for further treatment. Officials have not given an update on his condition.

A black 2002 Honda Accord was also found abandoned at the intersection of West Brooklyn Avenue and Williams Estate Drive roughly 30 minutes after the shooting took place. The car was towed to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and is being searched for evidence possibly related to the shooting.

At this time, investigators say they believe the victim was a passenger inside the Accord when it was shot at while driving down 16th Street.

Officials are still trying to gather information and locate possible witnesses. No arrests have been made.
