Judge grants change of venue in Murdaugh re-trial case; defense wants Charleston

COLLETON CO., S.C. – Alex Murdaugh’s upcoming double-murder retrial is officially moving to a new location. During a hearing Friday, the judge granted a change of venue, ruling Murdaugh cannot get a fair trial in Colleton County.

The new city hasn’t been named, though the defense wants Charleston.

The judge also ruled Murdaugh’s testimony from his first trial can be used by prosecutors under certain conditions.

Murdaugh’s 2023 conviction was overturned in May, with his new trial set for April.
