CHARLOTTE, NC — We’re inching closer to opening statements in the trial of CMPD Officer Wes Kerrick.  The 12th juror was seated Tuesday; four alternates are still needed.  As WCCB Charlotte’s Amy Cowman reports, emotions are running high for all those involved.

It’s been a slow week in the courtroom for the Ferrell and Kerrick families, who tell us it has been stressful and emotional sitting and listening to answers of people who could decide Officer Wes Kerrick’s fate.  He has his wife and family inside court supporting him every day.

After 7 days of questions and dozens of candidates, the state and defense have agreed on their 12 person jury, made up of four white women, two African American women, two Hispanic women, three white men and one African American man.

Each faced in-depth questions, ranging from how much they have seen on the news and read in the newspaper about this case and other similar ones around the country.  Also, questions about their opinion on drug use, since the state says there will be evidence Jonathan Ferrell drank alcohol and smoked marijuana the night of his death.

The defense and prosecution were looking for jurors who had no specific feelings, positive or negative towards the police.
