Home Surveillance Video Helps CMPD Identify Vehicle Break-In Suspect
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged a man for his involvement in multiple Charlotte vehicle break-ins.
On the morning of August 1st, 2018, CMPD officers responded to multiple cases of breaking and entering of motor vehicles on Old House Circle.
Officers obtained footage from a resident’s camera that showed the suspect pulling on vehicle door handles and entering a vehicle.
CMPD officers shared the video in an effort to identify the suspect, and the next day officers saw a person matching the description of the suspect in the video.
Police used the license plate number from the vehicle the subject was last seen driving to identify the suspect as 19-year-old Asmir Halilic, and obtain warrants.
On August 3rd, 2018, Halilic conducted a traffic stop on Sam Newell Road and arrested Halilic for the outstanding warrants. Several stolen items from the recent vehicle break-ins were discovered in Halilic’s possession.
Halilic confessed to the Old House Circle break-ins during an interview. He also confessed to other crimes in and was charged with four counts of Possession of Stolen Property, two counts of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Larceny, and Possession of Marijuana.
Detective also obtained warrants for 14 counts of Felony Breaking And Entering a Motor Vehicle, seven counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, Felony Larceny, and Felony Larceny of a Firearm.
