Charlotte ceremony to honor 9/11 victims on 25th anniversary

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Firefighter Steven Coakley Foundation is preparing to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, with its annual Flags of Remembrance ceremony Friday at Romare Bearden Park.

Edmund Walker and John Howell with the foundation joined WCCB Rising alongside Duke Energy Foundation President Loree Elswick to discuss this year’s tribute and the legacy of firefighter Steven Coakley.

With this year marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks, the ceremony will also feature a memorial light display illuminating Charlotte’s skyline with support from the Duke Energy Foundation.
