Air Quality concerns and building heat Thursday

By Thursday, we start turning the heat back up. We’ll have plenty of sunshine, and temperatures will climb into the low 90s. Winds will be light, so it’s going to feel pretty warm and a little stagnant, especially during the afternoon. With a limited air flow that will make air quality a concern.

An Air Quality Alert will be in effect from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. for Mecklenburg and Gaston counties. If you’re sensitive to poor air quality, you’ll want to take it a little easier outdoors during those hours.

Friday looks like the peak of this late-summer heat. We could get into the mid 90s with plenty of sunshine to start the day, but the combination of heat and increasing humidity will give us a better chance for a few afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. These will be more hit-or-miss storms, so one neighborhood could get a quick downpour while another stays completely dry.

Saturday brings a little relief from the heat, with temperatures dropping back into the upper 80s. It should be a mostly sunny and warm day, and Saturday night will be much more comfortable with lows falling into the upper 60s.

Enjoy tonight while we have it, because the heat is making another run at us Thursday and Friday before we get a little break heading into the weekend.
