Quiet evening with upper 80s returning Thursday

Wednesday evening will be quiet and comfortable across the region. Skies stay mostly clear, with temperatures falling into the upper 50s by Thursday morning.

Thursday brings another round of sunshine and warmth. We’ll start the day cool, but temperatures will quickly climb, with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 80s. It will be a dry day with plenty of sunshine from start to finish.

Friday is when we’ll begin to notice the pattern changing. Clouds will gradually increase, and while most of the day should stay dry, a few showers could pop up in the mountains during the afternoon. For Charlotte and the surrounding areas, the better chance for rain arrives Friday night and continues into Saturday.

Saturday looks like the start of a much wetter stretch. Expect more clouds, cooler temperatures and showers becoming increasingly widespread. By Saturday afternoon and evening, rain could become steady, with periods of heavier rain developing. A few rumbles of thunder remain possible but the severe weather threat remains low. The heaviest bulk of rain will happen overnight into the start of Sunday.

Sunday is shaping up to be a very soggy day. Rain will linger, and some of it could be heavy at times. With the clouds, rain and cooler air in place, temperatures will be noticeably lower than what we’ve experienced this week. Daytime highs will return to the 70s. We should be preparing for wet brunch plans and tailgating. By game time the heaviest rain will be gone, but I’m still expecting lingering rain.
