City working to get ahead of parking loss ahead of re-development near Bojangles Coliseum

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte leaders are working to get ahead of a possible reduction in parking near Bojangles Coliseum in east Charlotte. On Monday, City Council’s Economic Development Committee discussed spending $6 million to convert city-owned property off Chipley Avenue into nearly 220 new parking spaces.

The city anticipates a 55 percent loss in parking across the street from Bojangles Coliseum after work gets underway on a new mixed-use development that would replace the Park Expo Center.

The proposed project, called The Colonnade, would include shops, housing, a grocery store, and hotel. City leaders want the new parking spaces ready by the end of 2027.
