Shoes That Fit nonprofit and Nordstrom partner to donate new shoes to local students
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hundreds of local students walked a little taller on Wednesday, thanks to a major surprise giveaway in south Charlotte. National nonprofit Shoes That Fit partnered with Nordstrom. Volunteers custom-fitted every single student at Pinewood Elementary School on Wednesday with a brand new pair of sneakers, socks, and shoe charms.
Organizers say new footwear is a major expense for families that directly impacts a child’s mental health, physical activity, and overall school attendance. Janet Lang with Shoes That Fit says, “We are taking off their old shoes and we can see that a lot of them are torn, really worn out. And then just putting a brand new pair of shoes on them that they get fitted for directly. You just see the excitement go in their face.”
This is the first time the 16-year national partnership has brought its donation campaign to the Queen City. The organization selects schools based on data showing a high percentage of families and children in financial need.
