Deputies: Man travels from California to Union Co. to meet 15-year-old girl for sex

UNION CO., N.C. – A California man is behind bars in Union County, accused of traveling across the country to have sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Union County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 24-year-old Daniel Castillo at Dogwood Park in Wesley Chapel on Monday. They credit a tip from a citizen, who saw something that just seemed off and called 911.

At first, deputies charged him with giving the teen alcohol and a vape. After more detective work, they uncovered that the teen and Castillo met on Snapchat months earlier, and he traveled to Union County to meet her for sex.

The investigation is ongoing.
