Man Accused Of Assaulting Woman, Then Running Her Over Outside Belmont Planet Fitness

BELMONT, NC — Police released new information Friday afternoon about a violent assault that took place outside a Planet Fitness overnight Thursday.

According to reports, 25-year-old Kevin Ryersen attacked a female victim after following her out to her car around 12:21am Thursday at the Planet Fitness on 602 Park Street.

Police say Ryersen forced the victim to the ground and strangled her before taking her keys and getting in her vehicle. Witnesses called 911, but reports say Ryersen was “undaunted” by their presence.

Instead of leaving the scene immediately, police say Ryersen turned the vehicle around and intentionally ran the victim over before taking off.

At this time, investigators say there doesn’t seem to be a connection between Ryersen and the victim, nor does there appear to be any evidence that the two ever crossed paths or communicated in any way.

Ryersen is charged with two counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Assault by Strangulation, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill/Inflicting Serious Injury, and Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Belmont Police Department at 704-829-4037.
