The Town of Cornelius names its first female police chief

CORNELIUS, N.C. – The Town of Cornelius is making history by promoting Jennifer Thompson to Chief of Police. Thompson is the town’s first-ever female chief. She is a 25-year veteran of the department. She joined the agency in 2001 as a cadet and rose through every rank, most recently serving as Deputy Chief.

Thompson says her leadership will heavily focus on supporting officer mental health. She is also a dedicated advocate for pediatric brain cancer research, a cause she champions in honor of her late son, Jace.

She replaces retiring Chief David Baucom, who will step down December 31st.
