Accused Charlotte-area serial secret peeper bonds out of jail for third time
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -An accused serial secret peeper is out of jail again after his third arrest for recording women as they undressed.
Investigators say they found more than 200 videos on 25-year-old Dylan Hampton’s phone that he secretly recorded of women in Charlotte-area dressing rooms, including inside the Old Navy store at SouthPark Mall. Shopper Matthew Young tells WCCB Charlotte’s Kaci Jones that businesses could do more to protect their customers. Young says, “I definitely think that the stores here could start just kind of sweeping through, whether it’s at the beginning of the day, the end of the day, even if it’s just three times a day. I think that’s a little thing they could do just to make sure everyone’s safe at the mall.”
Court records show Hampton, of Waxhaw, is accused of doing this multiple times. In July, a woman says she caught him recording in the dressing room of Old Navy at SouthPark Mall. Police arrested him, and say Hampton had three phones and Meta glasses. He got out on a $2,000 bond.
On October 19th, Hampton was arrested again, and accused again of secretly recording women in dressing rooms at the Old Navy at Charlotte Premium Outlets. He got out on a $5,000 bond.
On November 2nd, investigators got a warrant, seized his phones and says they found hundreds of videos taken from various locations including inside a bedroom and bathroom at a home in Pineville. His bond this time was set at $30,000. He got out of jail again.
Young says, “I think we just need to protect our women, whether it’s out in the world, on the streets, or even in a changing room.”
Other shoppers say this case is a reminder to be vigilant. Armoris Romero says, “When you’re in a fitting room, you’re not expecting anybody see you.” Her friend, Gloria Garcia, says, “Sometimes when you have the mirrors, I try to look like around, if there’s like a hole in the wall or something, I just like cover it up because I’m always like looking up of all of those (things).”
Investigators say Dylan Hampton even left an online product review for one of the cameras he purchased to spy on women while they got undressed. He recommended the camera to others, calling it “discreet.” Hampton is now facing eight counts of felony secret peeping. There is no word where he is after he bonded out of jail on Friday.
