CMPD: Charlotte Woman Found Alive After Man Tried To Kill Her, Dump Body In Remote Area Of Anson County

CHARLOTTE, NC — A man faces multiple charges after police say he tried to kill a woman and then dump her body in a remote area of Anson County over the weekend.

According to investigators, 28-year-old Jonathan Collins was with the victim at her home on Avery Meadows Drive in northwest Charlotte when he attacked her with a cooking pan and strangled her multiple times. Collins then reportedly locked her inside a closed garage with a running vehicle, filling it with carbon monoxide, before driving her to a remote area of Anson County.

The Anson County Sheriff’s Office contacted CMPD Sunday after they say deputies found the victim and transported her to a medical facility for treatment.

Collins was arrested Tuesday by Union County authorities and transferred back to Mecklenburg County. He is charged with Attempted Murder, Assault by Strangulation, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, and 1st Degree Kidnapping.

The investigation is ongoing.
