Caldwell County Candidate For Sheriff And Son Arrested On Drug Charges
LENOIR, N.C. — The Democratic candidate for sheriff in Caldwell County, Robert “Dusty” Lewis Crump, and his son, who is also his campaign manager, have been arrested on drug charges.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office says they assisted with executing a search warrant issued by the SBI on the home of Crump and his son, Will Dixon Crump on September 5th.
The search warrant was issued after a month long investigation, according to a news release. A special agent with the SBI reportedly made numerous purchases of marijuana from Will and Robert Crump at their residence on Journeys End Lane.
Investigators say they found 246.5 grams of marijuana, digital weighing scales, packaging material, ledgers and numerous other items of drug paraphernalia during the search of the home.
They also seized a 30-30 rifle and US Currency. Investigators say a portion of the currency contained marked bills, which were used in some of the previous undercover marijuana buys. This money was reportedly found to be in Sheriff Candidate Robert Crump’s possession.
Both Robert and Will Crump have been charged with felonious possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and felonious maintain a dwelling to keep/store a controlled substance.
A criminal history of Will Dixon Crump indicated he has been previously charged with Felonious Possession of Heroin on September 12, 2017 and Felonious Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance on April 9, 2018.
A criminal history of Robert Lewis Crump indicated he was found guilty on April 26, 1993 of Misdemeanor Maintain a Dwelling to Keep/Store a Controlled Substance and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana in Caldwell County Superior Court. Both individuals had a first appearance set for District Court in Lenoir on September 6, 2018.
