Deputies: Stolen Motorcycle Chase Reaches Speeds Up To 90 MPH

NEBO, NC — A suspect was arrested on multiple charges Thursday morning after leading Burke County deputies on a 25 mile chase that reportedly reached speeds up to 90 mph.

Nicholas Cordell, 23, was riding a stolen Kawasaki motorcycle in the area of NC 126 and Cobb Avenue, according to Burke County deputies, when he refused to stop for traffic violations. The chase ended 25 miles away in McDowell County when officials say Cordell ditched the bike and tried to escape on foot.

Deputies say Cordell possessed methamphetamine at the time of his arrest, and the stolen motorcycle had an altered VIN plate. Additional narcotics were reportedly found on Cordell when he was searched at the Burke/Catawba County District Confinement Facility.

Cordell is charged with Flee to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Controlled Substance in Jail/Prison Premises, Possession of Schedule II (Meth), Driving While License Revoked, Reckless Driving to Endanger, Possession of Vehicle with Altered VIN, and Resisting Public Officer. He has been placed under a $50,500 bond.
