A 12-Year-Old Boy Caught In Crossfire Waiting At A School Bus Stop In North Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC. — A 12-year-old boy caught in crossfire, waiting at a school bus stop in North Charlotte. As the boy recovers in the hospital, one man is in custody and police are searching for a second suspect.
Priscila Hoyoe hugging her children extra tight as they got off the school bus. Her children’s bus stop is near the one on West Sugar Creek Road where gunfire hurt a 12-year-old boy around 7:30 Thursday morning.
“I pray the family is okay, I pray that the child is okay. The little boy he is a very sweet child. I just hope and pray that he’s fine,” says Hoyoe.
Priscila says she woke up to four gunshots. Those gunshots coming from across the street near the intersection of West Sugar Creek and Reagan drive. Police say Ray Daniels fired at a group of people in front of a motel and a bullet hit the boy in the leg.
“For all of us, it’s really sad because we all try the best to look after all the kids here at this hotel.”
Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Deputy Corey Thompson heard the gunshots, then saw the suspect get into the passenger side of a car and take off. CMPD says Daniels fired shots at the deputy as he chased the car down I-85 southbound. The car got off on Brookshire Boulevard, then crashed. The guys inside ran off. Police arrested Daniels a short time later.
Jail records show this is his fourth arrest in Charlotte since 2016. Charges include drug possession, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.
Daniels is facing several charges including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.
CMPD is still trying to identify the driver of the car.
