Hornets Pack Food Boxes for Florence Relief

CHARLOTTE, NC — Hornets are helping Florence survivors. The team partnered with Food Lion to pack more than 5,000 disaster boxes at Second Harvest Food Bank Friday. The boxes of meals will be shipped to Wilmington, Fayetteville, and Myrtle Beach.

Hornets owner and chairman Michael Jordan says the destruction to his hometown of Wilmington prompted him to act quickly with hurricane relief efforts.

“For me, it wasn’t even a doubt,” said Jordan. “Yeah, I wanted to be the first person to jump out because this is home. Hopefully we can get other people to understand the importance of it. Even though the rain has stopped, it’s gonna get worse before it gets better.”

Jordan is donating $2 million of his own money to Florence relief and recovery. The donation will go to the Foundation for the Carolinas Hurricane Florence Response Fund and the Red Cross.
