Deputies: Father Fatally Shot Daughter’s Boyfriend After Assault

LANCASTER, SC — A 44-year-old man died overnight Monday after reportedly being shot on Maplewood Avenue by his girlfriend’s father.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Jamey McCants died from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso while being transported to CMC in Charlotte. He was reportedly being transferred to CMC from Springs Memorial Hospital when he died.

The shooting happened at the home of 27-year-old Jenna Horne around 1:20am. Ms. Horne and McCants were reportedly in a relationship at the time of the shooting.

According to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, a friend brought McCants to Ms. Horne’s home shortly after midnight Monday. Ms. Horne’s father, 58-year-old Jeffrey Horne, was at the home when McCants arrived.

Deputies say he had driven his daughter home earlier that night.

While at the home, deputies say McCants and Ms. Horne got into an argument. When the argument turned physical, Ms. Horne’s father reportedly pulled a pistol and fired a single shot when McCants lunged at him.

Investigators say Mr. Horne was justified in the shooting in defense of his daughter. No charges are expected to be filed.
