Hurricane Michael Leaves Mess Throughout Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC.–  Flooding and road closures remain a threat across our area. There are 119 roads closed statewide, and 29 are in Charlotte.

The storm cleanup is underway. Strong winds and heavy rain from Michael left a mess behind in Charlotte. Tree debris covering roads, downed power lines, and overflowing waterways.

Plaza Midwood resident, Joe McGirt is counting his blessings, thankful a massive tree in his front yard missed his home.

“You could feel the vibrations on the ground it was so big. It was kind of a crack is it was pulling out, it was mainly this large vibration,” says McGirt.

The tree fell onto Chambwood Road in Plaza Midwood, blocking traffic. Medic received 73 calls related to trees down and trees hitting power lines.

Emergency crews responded to 67 traffic accidents related to the storm. Two cars ran into a tree after it fell on Eastway Drive. There were no serious injuries.

Rushing water at Little Sugar Creek, rising and flooding the greenway.

In North Charlotte, there was flooding at a familiar site: under the bridge at North Tryon and 16th street.
