CHARLOTTE, NC. — Thousands of Duke Energy customers in Mecklenburg County don’t have power.
On the ground, and in the air. crews. Working tirelessly to clean up the mess Michael left behind in Mecklenburg County.
When Jeanine Taylor talked with WCCB, her house in West Charlotte hadn’t had power for more than a day.
Taylor says, “Dark. No access to anything, if you need to eat it’s got to be something that is not perishable.”
Large trees still down throughout Charlotte. In Myers Park, a tree fell on the back of this home on Foxcroft Road.
Tree removal crews, using a crane 100 feet in the air, moving parts of downed trees so they can be shredded.
“I’ve got seven crews right now that’s all they’re doing yesterday and today and tomorrow it’s taking trees off of houses. Once we do that then will take a little break and start cleaning up,” says Patrick George with Heartwood Tree service.
On Booker Avenue in Northwest Charlotte, a tree took down a power line leaving Cora Banner in the dark for more than 24 hours.
“Our food is melting right now, out of the freezer, so I don’t know what’s going to happen now. Waiting on them, and nobody has gotten back to us yet,” says Banner.
A Duke Energy spokesperson says its crews spent the day assessing the damage. Power has already been restored to 750,000 customers in the Carolinas.
